Every year at Thanksgiving I like to try a new recipe and, if possible, start a new tradition. This year I did both!
My new favorite turkey dressing is called Three-Bread Stuffing. Sandra Lee is the creator and here’s the link to the recipe.
What makes this dish so amazing is the combination of rye, sourdough and cornbread with parmesean cheese sprinkled on top. I must confess, I did make one small yet intense flavor enhancement. I used the veges from the bottom of the turkey roasting pan (onions, carrots, celery, apple) instead of sauting fresh veges. The turkey drippings marinated the veges to perfection and transformed the dressing into a masterpiece, if I do say so myself.
My other new tradition is delivering homemade pies to show appreciation to my clients. Seems like a simple gesture but it takes more time than you could imagine, especially the day before Thanksgiving. However, the rewards were quite remarkable. Sitting in traffic on I5 near the old Rainier Brewery, I looked up and saw a rainbow. Then John Lennon started singing “Imagine” on the radio. That was when the craziness of the day started to subside. On the last stop of my gratitude pie tour, my client presented me with a large box of homemade heart-shaped cookies, ginger cookies. Delish!
Once again I find the joy of giving is being open to receive all the goodness around me. Hmmmm. Sounds like something from a Dave Matthews song. You’re welcome.
